Our Hotel Sonnenhof near Merano is ideally located for hiking in South Tyrol. All hiking areas in Merano and the surrounding area are only a few minutes' drive away from the Sonnenhof in Kuens at the entrance to the Passiertal, for example the hiking trails around the Hirzer or Ifinger, via Merano 2000 or in the Texelgruppe Nature Park. The old irrigation channels lead through vineyards and apple orchards, higher up there are well marked hiking trails and challenging climbing routes. The climate also plays its part with around 300 sunny days a year.
Cable cars and hiking buses ensure that you can leave your car in the garage and you can be in the mountains in just a few minutes when you take the cable cars. And in winter, solitary snowshoe hikes and winter hikes await the whole family.

Nestled in a Mediterranean park landscape, the Merano Spa is located in the heart of the historic spa town. Here, the well-tried spa tradition of the spa town of Merano is revisited in an innovative and appealing environment and reinterpreted according to today's refinements. The facility includes hot water pools and counter-current round pools, a brine pool and a Kneipp facility in the park.

From March to late autumn, exotic plants from all over the world, including typical flowers and trees of the Alps, bloom in the sprawling grounds in the gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle surrounding the former residence of Empress Sisi and the high nobility in Merano. In addition to the water and terraced gardens, the sensory garden and the Japanese garden you can also walk through the cactus and succulent hills or the garden with southern crops such as olive tree and grapevines.

There are also eleven pavilions designed by various artists, as well as an aviary and a grotto with a multimedia show on the root system. There are things to see during a visit in any season, including the rhododendron blooms in the spring, rose and lavender flowers in summer and the autumnal "beacon" in the Japanese Garden.
The Trauttmansdorff Castle is also well worth a visit itself. It now houses the Touriseum, the Museum of Tourism.

There are two golf courses near the Panorama Hotel Sonnenhof above Merano at the entrance to the Passeiertal: the 18-hole course in St. Leonhard in Passeier and the 9-hole course in Lana near Merano; a few kilometres further south, you can find the golf courses of Eppan and the Dolomiti Golf Club on Nonsberg.
