Springtime

Hiking

Discover the most beautiful irrigation channels in the Merano region. Beautiful panoramas, blossoming gardens and a whole lot of holiday feeling.
Spring in the Merano region is the time for lovers of flowers, plants and nature. The Lord has been very kind to us (in cooperation with the Merano city nursery). See for yourself how enchanting the Merano promenades are for a walk and stroll.

Biking

April is the month of the apple blossom here in Merano. The perfect time to ride your bike through the white and pink blossoming apple meadows. Simply wonderful.
How about a bike tour to Vernurio, high above Caines? First we go to Rifiano and from there up to the sun-drenched hamlet of Vernurio. In spring, when the alpine pastures are still covered in snow, it is a magnificent tour.

Our shopping tip for you: a visit to the Monocle Store in Merano. Here you will find trendy clothing, very special books and magazines, care products, cool stationery, bags and much more.
PUR Südtirol in Merano’s magnificent Kurhaus is certainly something you should experience. Probably Merano’s best-known shop offers exclusively South Tyrolean delicacies and accessories.

Summer

Hiking

A culinary hiking tip is the Reseggeralm in the Hirzer hiking area. Easily accessible by cable car and not far from the Sonnenhof.
In summer, it’s wonderfully sunny and warm and the healthy, fresh mountain air does you a world of good from time to time. So why not climb up to the Monte San Vigilio – with the second oldest cable car in Europe. The little chapel and the panoramas are unique.
Summer is also the right time for trips into the high mountains. Very tempting: the Sopranes Lakes. With 7 lakes, an unforgettable excursion destination. And not as hard to reach as you might think.

Biking

The Passiria Valley cycle route leads from Merano over 20 kilometres to San Leonardo in Passiria. It’s only a couple of hundred metres to the start of the route, and off you go. A dream tour for pleasure cyclists.
In summer, when it’s hot in the valley, we South Tyroleans are drawn to the mountains. An alpine tour of Merano 2000 is a cooling change in the hot months.
In August, the weather is ideal for swimming in the lakes. An e-bike tour to the Oltradige and a dip in one of the Monticolo Lakes is particularly recommended. For the more sporty among you, an excursion to Lago di Caldaro is also an option. And back

In Settequerce, a few kilometres from Bolzano, you will find the vineyards of Kellerei von Braunbach. A delicious glass of sparkling wine or Lagrein wine can be enjoyed under the large walnut tree while enjoying a hearty “Marende” snack. The winegrower Hannes also organises tastings for his guests.
Did you know that in July you can look forward to an evening festival somewhere in the region almost every day? The long summer nights invite you to have fun, be merry and celebrate.
When it gets really warm towards late summer, delightfully cool cellars, castles and palaces await you. Most of them have a museum, an exhibition or a wine tavern. Did you know that there is hardly anywhere with such beautiful residences and castles to explore as in the Burgraviato?

In autumn

Hiking

A place you have to experience is the Wurzer Alm above Avelengo. A unique location on a sunny plateau, a whole host of animals to look at and amazing culinary specialities, which alpine host Ulli conjures up in her small kitchen.
The air cools down a bit on the mountains in autumn, but it then rewards hikers with incredible long-distance views. Most alpine huts are still open and invite you to try some culinary alpine delights.

Biking

Via the cycle path into the Passiria Valley and from San Leonardo up the mountain. Whether you go to Stulles, to Valtina or even up to the Passo Giovo is up to you and depends on your fitness. Either way, such a tour is a scenic experience.
Autumn with its beautiful colours is probably the most beautiful time of year for a leisurely bike tour through the Merano region: under a blue sky you pass along through red apple orchards and golden-yellow vineyards, with the mountain peaks in sight, some of which are already covered with a white blanket of snow.

Other

Apple picking and grape harvest begin in September. What about a visit to an organic farm? We are happy to give you tips on excursion destinations.
Come October you can experience many different top events. First and foremost, the colourful Merano Grape Festival, which usually takes place on the third weekend. The highlight of the event is the magnificent parade with more than 40 brass bands on Sunday.
